Grand Tours

The Giro d'Italia: Vingegaard's 2026 win and the winners since 2022.

The 2026 Giro d'Italia ran from 8 to 31 May, from Nesebar in Bulgaria to Rome, and is finished. Jonas Vingegaard won it at his first attempt. This page gives the 2026 result and jerseys, then the podiums and jersey winners back to 2022, each with its source.

The organiser's site, giroditalia.it, did not come up with 2026 results in our searches, so the results below come from news reports we read and from Wikipedia, which we treat as a secondary source and name wherever we use it. The organiser's own broadcaster list for 2026 was read and is on watching cycling.

Status on 22 October 2026

The 2026 Giro is finished. It ran from 8 to 31 May 2026 over 21 stages, starting in Nesebar, Bulgaria, and finishing in Rome (Wikipedia, secondary).

The four jerseys

The Giro's leader wears pink, the maglia rosa. The points leader wears cyclamen, the maglia ciclamino, which was brought back in 2017; the best climber wears blue, the maglia azzurra; and the best young rider, under 25, wears white, the maglia bianca. These descriptions come from Wikipedia (secondary), because the official Giro page cited in search results returned an error when opened.

2026: Vingegaard wins his first Giro

Jonas Vingegaard (Denmark, Visma-Lease a Bike) won the 2026 Giro in 83h 22' 51" on his first appearance in the race, with five stage wins (Domestique; Wikipedia). Wikipedia places those wins at Blockhaus, Corno alle Scale, Pila, Cari in Switzerland and Piancavallo. We do not give stage numbers, because that Wikipedia page's numbering for the Piancavallo stage clashes with its numbering of the final stage in Rome.

With this win Vingegaard has won all three Grand Tours: the Tour de France in 2022 and 2023, the Vuelta a Espana in 2025 and the Giro in 2026, as the results on this site's Grand Tour pages show.

Vingegaard wore the blue mountains jersey through the second week before Ciccone took it back on stage 19 (Domestique, including a search summary of the same outlet). The final stage in Rome on 31 May 2026 was won by Jonathan Milan of Lidl-Trek (Rouleur; Domestique).

The 2026 Giro d'Italia Women started on 30 May, so the two races overlapped on 30 and 31 May (cyclingstage.com); it is on Giro d'Italia Women.

The rules behind the race

The Giro is one of the three men's Grand Tours. Under UCI Regulations Part 2, Road Races (version on 1 July 2025), a Grand Tour lasts 15 to 23 days including rest days (article 2.6.007), has two rest days spread evenly (article 2.6.012) and starts teams of eight riders (article 2.2.003). Article 2.6.007 also lets an organiser ask, once every four years, for an extra day to start in a territory that is not next door or that needs a long transfer. The research did not record whether the 2026 start in Bulgaria used that provision, so we make no claim about it. More on how stage races are scored is on stage races and jerseys.
