Recalls

Recalls and safety warnings: what regulators have published.

When a regulator finds a bicycle or e-bike hazardous, it publishes a recall, a warning or a safety report. This page gives recent examples exactly as each regulator's notice states them, with the date and the firms the notice names. It is a sample; each regulator's own database is the complete and current record.

Get training

This page explains what governing bodies, standards bodies and road authorities publish. It is not a substitute for cycle training from a qualified instructor, for a qualified bike mechanic, or for medical advice.

Check the regulator's notice

This page is a dated sample. The regulator's own notice, linked in the sources, is the authority on whether a particular bike or battery is affected and what the owner is told to do.

Recalls and warnings are different

In the recalls below, the regulator announced the recall together with a remedy, such as a free repair or a replacement part. A warning is what the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issues when it tells consumers to stop using a product without an agreed recall; in the two warnings below, the CPSC said the firm had not agreed to a recall or had not responded. The UK's Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) also publishes Product Safety Reports, which can record a product being stopped at the border.

Fire figures and the regulators' battery guidance are on the e-bike batteries and fire safety page.

What the notices tell owners

The CPSC's BMC recall (25-177, 13 March 2025) and Health Canada's Cube recall (13 January 2026) direct owners to stop using the affected bike and contact an authorised dealer for the remedy (in the BMC notice, a free inspection and fork replacement). OPSS advises getting professional help for e-bike conversions and repairs (27 February 2025). Identifying whether a particular bike is affected, and carrying out the remedy, is for the firm named in the notice and a qualified bike mechanic. The mechanics and bike fitting page explains who does that work.

Where the complete records are

  • United States: the CPSC's recalls and warnings listings.
  • United Kingdom: the OPSS product safety alerts, reports and recalls listings on GOV.UK.
  • Canada: Health Canada's recalls and safety alerts site.
  • Australia: the ACCC's Product Safety Australia site, which we could not open, so no Australian recall is listed here.

Search listings also showed other 2025 and 2026 CPSC and OPSS notices on e-bike batteries and on fork and frame failures. We did not open those notices, so they are not listed.
